hello again ladies and gentlemen I'm Joe
handy the Android authority app guy and
in this quick video we're gonna take a
look at the new opera max before we get
started let's do a quick refresher on
what opera max actually is the
application connects to a VPN that links
you to the Opera Max cloud once that
connection is established the server
will compress data before sending it to
your device
it focuses primarily on compressing
images and video which used more data
than any other form of media on the web
this can result in faster load times and
areas with bad connections and it can
also help you manage how much data you
use the interface will show you what
applications you've been using how much
data they've consumed and how much data
opera max has saved you along with that
you'll find suggestions on applications
you have installed that'll save you the
most data your monthly stats and of
course the settings as we mentioned a
recent update added a host of new stuff
to oper max
and we're gonna check those out right
now one of the bigger features is the
ability to save data on your Wi-Fi
connection as well as your mobile
connection it acts almost exactly like
it would if you are using mobile only
and it will show you how much data
you've saved from which applications
much like the mobile version the Wi-Fi
version can also help load pages faster
if you're on a slower connection and
help you save data if you're on a tiered
plan the Wi-Fi and mobile data parts of
the application do work at the same time
so you can switch back and forth and
your data savings will be picked back up
where the other one left off and we did
like that seamless integration a whole
lot in the old version of opera match
you could block applications to prevent
them from using just mobile data these
applications would only use Wi-Fi when
available with this new version you can
block an application from using data all
together be it Wi-Fi or mobile data it's
worth noting that there are two separate
lists you can block apps on mobile or on
Wi-Fi or both this offers almost total
control of what gets to use your data
this is definitely useful for a number
of reasons privacy first and foremost
since you can prevent applications from
reporting your data to their cloud it'll
also help control those applications
that seem to want to use a lot of data
in the background which can help those
on tier data plans from going over their
limit too soon this will also probably
save battery
last and certainly not least as the new
user interface opera max now has a more
material inspired holo design than it
did previously the old interface did
have things like swiping tabs and those
kinds of interface elements remain but
there is now also a hamburger menu a
floating action button and more material
and holo stuff it does look a lot better
than it used to and you can also now
share your data savings to your friends
to show them how well it works overall
this is a positive update for a fairly
underrated application especially in
markets for your internet access is very
slow and unstable or you have a limited
amount of data that you can use each
month of course if you have wicked fast
and unlimited data opera max probably
won't be overly useful however those
unlimited data plans or slow speeds
should definitely give it a shot
that link is in the video description
below that about does it for this video
folks if you haven't already don't
forget to subscribe to the Android
Authority YouTube channel as always

wonderful day
