Alienware's Steam Machine comes to E3 2015: hands-on
2015-06-16
we've waited a long time for it but
steam machines are almost here i'm dan
Aquin here at e3 2015 with the alienware
steam machine one of the first pieces of
hardware to use valves steamos that we
ever heard about delayed here and there
over the last couple years but now it is
finally coming out the steam machine is
going to be available in november or in
october if you were smart and got in
early and pre-ordered it it starts at
four hundred and fifty dollars for that
you get an intel core i3 cpu you get a
custom nvidia GPU that's based on the
860 have a very popular card this
version has a faster hard drive then the
windows version we've played with
previously it's got a 7200 RPM 500
gigabyte drive and if this guy looks
familiar that's because we've actually
been using it since late last year as
the alienware alpha which is the same
chance T but running Windows 8 maybe
someday Windows 10 but this is the steam
machine version of it and it comes with
the steam controller which has been
completely redesigned for the ground up
for a very new sort of game experience
that combines a gamepad or something
that feels more like using a mouse that
use the keyboard and mouse in a game as
a big touch pad right here but if you
want to go back and use a traditional
gamepad you can also use a regular xbox
360 or Xbox one pad with it to be a ton
of games from the Steam library
available for it and probably you know a
bunch more added as we go into the
holiday season if you want the steamos
you get the steam machine if you want
windows in a more traditional Windows
environment the same box is available
with essentially the same hardware as
the alienware alpha
