we already reviewed August 1st generation smartlock and really loved it but this second gen model right here is even better complete with homekit a new faceplate design with a built-in magnet and a new turn style that makes it easier to grip and move this is a really awesome smart lock probably our favorite one today so you still get all of the same great features as before all of the Bluetooth auto lock and unlock features from the Android or iPhone apps are still there and still work great but this second gen model also has home kit which means it works with Apple's Siri based platform so if you want to ask Siri to lock or unlock your door unlock the front door you can it works really well and if you want to do remote Siri access you could just use your fourth generation Apple TV to act as your Wi-Fi bridge so you get bluetooth from the lock and Wi-Fi from the Apple TV without even needing to buy the $80 connect accessory so even if you don't care about Apple at all this is still a significant upgrade in terms of design and you can always create a Wi-Fi bridge with either the connect accessory or the new doorbell camp for all these reasons we decided to give the August smart lock an Editors Choice Award
