Beware of strange USB sticks in your mailbox (CNET Update)
2016-09-22
hackers have found an extremely easy way
to attack your computer through your
mailbox and no I'm not talking about
your email malicious USB memory sticks
are being put in the mailboxes around
the area of Victoria Australia and when
residents put the USB in their computer
they're infected with malware
apparently the sticks have software
posing as a fake video streaming service
police in the area are now issuing
warnings but this is not a new concept
hacking conferences have long boasted
about the simple exploit of getting
people to insert their own malware into
their computer because people are too
trusting when they don't think that a
USB stick can be harmful and the
technology is getting more advanced
there are USB sticks that could destroy
any computer they're plugged into also
earlier this month security engineer Rob
fuller demonstrated how a USB stick can
seal the login credentials from a
Windows or Mac computer even when the
computer is locked it only takes about
10 seconds you know the rule your mother
taught you when you were young don't
take candy from strangers
well now that rule also applies to USB
drives that's it for this tech news
update I'm Bridget Carey you can stay on
