Braven BRV-1: a punchy mini Bluetooth speaker that's splashproof

2014-04-10
Ravens compact water-resistant ERV one Bluetooth speaker has been out for a while but it's now come down in price to the point where it's a reasonable value and a little more than a hundred dollars or about fifty dollars less than its list price I'm David Carr join if you're looking for a small ruggedized speaker that splash-proof the rv1 is worth considering sound wise it compares favorably to some of the better small Bluetooth speakers out there including the ue mini boom and is nicely designed with a couple of different color options to choose from on top there are vibe controls along with a power button and pause play button aside from the water-resistant design the one other extra is a USB charging port that's hidden under a screw-on cap on the back of the unit that added port allows you to charge a cell phone if you want using the speaker's internal rechargeable battery which is rated to power the speaker for around 12 hours on a full charge if you turn the speaker around it does look a little like a night-vision scope but all this thing does is stream your music from any Bluetooth enabled smartphone from around 30 feet away while the speaker plays loud for its size and sounds comparatively good it doesn't play as loud as JBL's flip to for example and like most other mini Bluetooth speakers it does have its limitations particularly in the bass Department it just doesn't come across as a fuller sounding at large speaker I also encountered some moments when I lost the wireless connection a bit although that 10 C par for the course for Bluetooth speakers I wasn't all that enthusiastic about the BRV one when it was selling for closer to $150 but at its new more modest price on line its recommendable I'm David carnally thanks for watching
