smart bulbs are great but a lot of times
you need to have a hub installed or know
what ZigBee means if you don't want any
of that GE has a bulb it thinks you
might like it's actually two bolts the
GE sleep bulb and the GE life bulb
they're both part of the C by GE series
and these are designed to be really
cheap and also really easy to use they
use bluetooth and connect with your
phone directly so you don't need a hub
and you don't need to know ZigBee your
z-wave or any of that stuff is now the
GE life LED is a lot like GES old smart
bulbs you can turn it on and off or dim
it up and down on your phone for basic
stuff
now the sleep LED is a little more
interesting it's got the color
tunability feature that we like in a lot
of modern lights so when I first screw
it in I get this bright blue daylight
that's good for the morning when you're
trying to wake up but I can also tone it
down during the day into this nice warm
kind of candle light glow another cool
thing is that you can set that color
temperature to change automatically
using this follow-the-sun feature you
can set the times in the app so that it
will change from that orange light in
the evening to a nice hot day light in
the morning to help you wake up the
catch is that you have to be within
Bluetooth range for those changes to
work and that really is the larger catch
with these bulbs in general you do have
to be within Bluetooth range to use them
there's not a hub or any platform right
now that supports them to extend that
coverage to outside the home still the
price is pretty good for these bulb you
get four of them for 50 bucks
that's to sleep and two light bulbs in
that starter kit I like that an awful
lot that's kind of the sweet spot where
I think smart bulbs should be aiming for
I just want the features to get there as
well
