2015-07-01
Apple's new music streaming service has arrived with Apple music you can listen to and discover new music connect with artists and more but it can be a little confusing to navigate so here are the five features that you should set up and try out first number one choosing genres and artists you like when you fire up Apple music head over to the accounts section by clicking the portrait in the top left corner of the screen and choose artists for you you'll be greeted with a series of bubbles that will actually what you're into tap a bubble to express interest or double tap it if it's something you really love you can also press and hold a bubble to completely remove it click the next button and the next page you'll pick a few artists you want to highlight and don't worry if you change your mind later you can always return to this menu at a later time Apple will then use these interests to generate a list of genres an artist that thinks you may enjoy you will find this list in the for youth section of the app next up following an unfollowing artist and connect when you first set up Apple music you will automatically follow artists on connect if you've purchased their music in the iTunes Store or if you previously expressed interest in that artists connect as Apple's music social network where artists can share and well connect with fans Apple has a recommended list of connections that you can choose from from top artists such as Taylor Swift and Rascal Flatts you can also choose to search for a specific artist and choose to follow them to unfollow an artist once again click the portrait in the top left corner of the screen this time choose following and tap unfollow next to the name of the artist number 3 creating a playlist in the my music section of the app tap on the playlist button found at the top of the screen and then click on a small new button give your playlist a name add a photo if you would like and then click add songs I find the easiest ways to search for the individual artist or song you would like to add and click the plus icon once it's created you can then add more content by pressing the small 3 icon next to a song or album and selecting add to playlist just like you can on Spotify playlist songs and albums can be saved to your device so you can still play them even when you don't have service this can be done by clicking the 3 icon next to the playlist song or album you would like to save and selecting make available offline and lastly don't forget to claim your unique user name for the last time click on the portrait icon in the top left corner click your name tap Edit and choose a nickname unfortunately Dan was taken by still manage to get my full name this is what will be displayed on your playlist and when you comment on something and connect and there you have it the five features you need to check out in Apple music for more how-to like this one be sure to check out how to duck cnet.com you can also reach out to me on Twitter any questions or comments I'm Dan graziano for CNET thanks for watching
