2015-01-29
with a recent update that's being slowly
rolled out to users Twitter now allows
you to privately message up to 20 of
your followers here's how to do it using
the app tap the messages tab then tap
the icon up here to start a new message
add people to the message by searching
for and tapping multiple names then hit
next at the bottom of the screen you can
compose your message and as people reply
you'll see the conversation unfold up
here just like any kind of group text
conversation you can send text emojis
and photos you can even embed yours or
someone else's tweet in a private chat
by drilling down to the specific tweet
you want to use tapping the three dots
in the corner and selecting share via
direct message another useful feature is
that you can name any group you create
by going up to the top of the thread
tapping the three dots and selecting
edit group name this same menu allows
you or anyone invited to the group to
add additional people
now as this private group message
feature rolls out and everyone gives it
a try here's the most important tip to
know how to leave any group you've been
added to in the conversation thread
select the menu up at the top and select
leave now when you do that and thread
will show that you've left and depending
on the context you may offend someone
so to sneak out choose the option to
turn off notifications the thread will
quietly go on in the background and you
can check in when you feel like it
without your pocket buzzing every few
seconds so there you go that's how to
get started with Twitter's new private
group direct message feature for more
