CNET How To - Share files using S Beam

2012-07-06
one of the cool new features on the samsung galaxy s3 is s beam it's like Android Beam in that it lets you share files between other android phones Android Beam which is available on Ice Cream Sandwich devices lets you send little bits of information like contacts and URLs but s beam which is unique to the samsung galaxy s3 lets you share files with other s3 phones it only works on the samsung galaxy s3 and with other s3 phones plus it lets you share more than just URLs and contact information to get started you'll need to enable a few features in your settings so go to settings more settings and turn on NFC s beam and turn on Wi-Fi direct with those settings in place you're ready to share files with other s3 phones just make sure that your friend also enables these settings so when you're ready find the file you want to share in this case I'll share a photo put the phones back to back it will ask you to tap the screen and once you do you can separate the devices because it's actually creating a Wi-Fi direct connection to transfer not NFC or Bluetooth when it's done the photo will be transferred and stored on the other phone with s beam you can also send music files videos and documents but remember this is only for the samsung galaxy s3 but if you do have an android phone with ice cream sandwich you can still use the Wi-Fi direct feature the only thing is you'll have to pair the two devices manually to transfer the files now s beam is just one of the many new features on the samsung galaxy s3 that's unique to that phone to check out more features see our review on cnet com and my other how to videos first c night I'm Sharon back
