CNET News - Protecting your Facebook privacy

2012-11-29
if you use facebook you know that every few months a privacy-related mean makes the round recently you probably saw this update I hereby declare that my copyright is attached to all of my personal details the lengthy post goes on to cite laws and international copyright agreements but the whole thing is actually a hoax facebook first of all already states in its policies that it doesn't own your content you are the creator content you own it it's not your political statements or photos of your kids that facebook wants rather it's how you use the site that information can be sold to advertisers privacy is a real concern though so here are ways to protect yourself be selective about who sees your content so every time you do a post you there's a little like button at the bottom of the post box that lets you choose which audience want you want to post to posts can be public viewed only by friends or even specific individuals if there are people you'd rather not share everything with add them to your restricted list by going to privacy settings and then clicking on blocked people and apps and when in doubt follow the golden rule of social networking the only way for you to know that your content is going to be used in a way that you don't approve of is to not post it on Facebook once you click post the proverbial genie is out of the bottle in San Francisco I'm Sumi das cnet.com for CBS News
