in a year when Ferguson Isis and ALS ice bucket challenge made headlines it was Robin Williams who topped the list of top trending searches on Google we saw a lot of searches for quotes from his movies pictures memes and also even we saw a spike in searches during the week after his passing related to mental health and signs of depression the World Cup took the number two spot followed by Ebola malaysia airlines in the ever frustrating mobile game flappy bird the top people who peaked America's interest were a mix of athletes in trouble and Hollywood celebrities Hunger Games star and iCloud hacking victim Jennifer Lawrence was the most popular beating out kim kardashian tracy morgan Ray Rice and Tony Stewart people couldn't quite let go of frozen which came in as the top trending search for movies it was definitely the year the selfie Ellen's Academy Award stunt made Oscar selfie the top trending search in that category but it's the questions we asked that may be the most revealing in the how-to category that top trending searches were how to airdrop for Apple's new mobile feature how to contour how to vote and how to kiss oh we also use Google to help figure out what's going on with our dogs with the top questions being why do dogs eat grass and do dogs dream interestingly enough there's more searches for dogs and cats on Google and what might be popular in 2015 the Royal baby was big news last year and I think now that Kate Middleton is expecting baby number two will see a lot of searches for that next year we'll have to wait and see and search in San Francisco I'm Kara Tsuboi cnet.com for CBS News
