Apple's making TV deals swatches are
getting smart and Twitter at MIT's it
sucks I'm Bridget Carey and this is your
cnet update it's deja vu here at update
we're back in our classic set with my
little monitor friend and the pointy
purple boxes of the future behind me it
was all rebuilt for a bigger studio
space and it still has that new studio
smell it's good to be back and there's
lots of news to cover so let's get
started our top story twitter sucks at
dealing with abuse the head of twitter
dick costolo says he's taking full
responsibility for the rampant abuse
harassment and basically hate fulfill
that spews from the keyboards of trolls
attacking people on twitter in an
internal memo obtained by the verge
Costolo wrote frankly to employees quote
we suck at dealing with abuse and trolls
on the platform and we've sucked at it
for years it's no secret and the rest of
the world talks about it every day he
went on to say that this causes people
to leave Twitter and that he promises to
put more resources into figuring out
ways to not just report harassment but
to stop the trolls from having a voice
in other news that sucks 80 million
people now have their social security
numbers names birthdays phone numbers
and addresses in the hands of hackers
the second largest health insurer in the
u.s. anthem was hit by a cyberattack and
hackers made off with the personal info
of 80 million members and employees like
every major hack the company is going to
offer some sort of identity theft
protection and credit monitoring service
but the damage is done and it's not just
your credit that gets damaged from this
it can be used in health care fraud as
well which could affect your medical
records in other news Apple's busy with
new ways to stream media recode reports
Apple's talking with TV programmers to
create some sort of internet-based
pay-tv service it would be similar to
the idea of dishes sling TV where you
pay a monthly fee for a handful of
channels reports also suggest Apple's
going to soon reveal a new music
streaming service the outlet 9to5 mac
says eco costs eight dollars a month and
it will use beats streaming technology
Apple will soon have some more
SmartWatch competition from swatch this
way
company told Bloomberg it's going to
unveil a SmartWatch in the next two or
three months and it'll connect to the
internet and make mobile payments
without having to be charged the report
says it'll work with windows and android
but i guess not for iOS meanwhile the
fitness apparel giant under armour just
purchased two popular health tracking
apps My Fitness Pal and endomondo the
company also has some fitness tracking
gadgets so watch out nike under armours
building a fitness tech empire that your
tech news update there's always more at
cnet com for more studios in New York
