CNET's Hooked Up - Best apps for finding new music
2013-06-05
what's up guys Brian Chong here with
cnet.com and one of the best things
about music is discovering new artists
or new songs so what we wanted to do is
show you some of the best music
streaming services to help you out now
first up if you're talking about simple
discovery you've got to go with Pandora
this is a service that's available on
your desktop tablets or phones and what
it allows you to do is enter in whether
it's an artist or a genre you like it
creates a station and then from there it
builds a list of songs that you can
listen to now if you're looking for a
more robust music service you've got to
check out Spotify this is a free desktop
application that incorporates your
existing music collection and also lets
you stream music at the same time it
also has these unique social hooks so
what you can do is find out music that
your friends listen to and then discover
music through them this makes it really
a big community experience now they also
offer an unlimited music experience that
costs $4.99 if you don't want to hear
any ads at all but then if you want to
jump up to the premium version that's
$9.99 and it allows you to download your
music to your tablet your phones and
then take them wherever you go and
listen to music offline so you won't
need an internet connection and let's
throw out one that you probably haven't
heard of you guys I know you're tired of
hearing the same 10 songs playing over
and over on the radio so check out this
website it's called beast mode fm and it
also works on mobile devices and what
they do is they take music that's been
published on blogs immediately sucks
them into the service and then streams
them to you so you can search for new
genres and you artists and really this
is one of my favorite sites to find new
music that I just haven't heard before
so there you go we know there's a lot
more music services out there like our
do and last.fm but those are a few of
our favorite picks for cnet.com i'm
