you know it's been going on the auto industry the last decade or so take any reasonably popular car and make an SUV or crossover variant of it and here's a very extreme example this would be the SUV of s classes the new Mercedes GL s now let's stop it down and explain how they name their SUVs GL means the cars an SUV the third letter after tells you what size it is GLA is the little guy like the egg GLC like the c-class mid-size GL II like the e-class replaces the old M and kind of biggish and then this guy the GL s the largest most luxurious one they make honestly the biggest win on the GLS might be the fact that it doesn't make you feel like toulouse-lautrec I mean it's biggish outside but it belies how much room is inside with three rows for room for seven real people and everyone gets a real seat but it's not a bus as you approach it all of those get a 9 speed automatic and a 6 mode personality selector called dynamic select to choose your powertrain flavor bigger 8 inch LCD inside touch pad on the console none of that radically new oh by the way all the GL's are 4matic they're all wheel drive and because everything's better with a little AMG spread on it especially in the Mercedes CFO's office they've also got a GLS 63 577 horse but that one drops the all-wheel drive mode selector these guys all come out spring of 2016 we'll get some pricing then well make sure you sit down
