today I climbed Mount Everest well at
least I did virtually Everest VR is an
incredible experience vr studio so far
and visual effects studio rvx
collaborated to create this exploration
simulation and while it doesn't take
very long to complete it did leave me
with feelings of respect and wonder for
Earth's highest peak around 300,000
high-definition images were used of the
real Everest to create a striking render
of the mountain at various points of
interest you'll start out at base camp
make an offering for a good climb grab
your tools and begin your Trek to the
summit between stops you'll watch
documentary esque segments about Mount
Everest offering up a closer look at
what real-life climbers go through to
reach the top of the mountain each
location has unique trivia and
information about how climbers navigate
the treacherous obstacles they face and
then you get a small virtual taste of
that locations visuals I even had to get
down on all fours and crawl into a tent
as I finally reached the top of Everest
I realized how little I knew about the
journey to the summit and how brutal the
conditions get as climbers reach higher
altitudes being able to use Virtual
Reality to experience extreme situations
and dangerous feats may someday prove to
give us a larger sense of empathy for
others who complete these monumental
tasks in real life and also give us a
chance to do something we'd probably
never do in the real world Everest VR
will be coming soon to HTC vive oculus
rift and PlayStation VR we did it we
climb Mount Everest in Virtual Reality
