yahoo was unfortunate enough to be hit
with the two largest hacks in the
history of the world after a two-year
investigation the United States
Department of Justice has charged for
men for the 2014 hack that affected over
500 million yahoo accounts two of the
men charged our officers and Russia's
Federal Security Service also known as
FSB FSB is essentially the successor to
the KGB the DOJ revealed the names of
the hackers and explained what they were
being charged with in a press conference
Dimitri doke achaia and Igor Sechin both
FSB officers protected directed
facilitated and paid criminal hackers to
collect information through KRIT
computer intrusions in the United States
and elsewhere the goal of the hack was
intelligence gathering the FSB would
gain access to accounts belonging to
journalists government officials and
employees of cyber security companies
once the officers gained the information
they turned it over to the other hackers
who used it for profit one of the
hackers based in Canada was arrested on
March 14th there is no extradition
treaty with Russia so the two FSB
officers may never face consequences in
the US the fourth hacker Alexei blonde
is a Russian national and resident Milan
was already on the FBI cyber most wanted
