Ember Travel Mug review: Keeps drinks perfectly hot if you have cash to burn
2018-01-26
at first glance the ember travel mug may
look like an ordinary single surf
thermos but for a hundred and fifty
dollars it will heat hot drinks to the
precise temperature you desire you see
this gadget has a built-in heater
unscrew the top and pour your drink
inside put the lid back on then swivel
the mugs bottom left or right to select
the target temperature you'd like it has
a range between 120 and 145 degrees
Fahrenheit you place the Ember on its
cradle to charge its battery when fully
charged the mug can actively heat liquid
inside it for about two hours
when sitting in its stock though the
ember can hold its temperature
indefinitely you can also control the
ember through a companion mobile app
plus save personal presets I have to say
though there are big problems with the
ember travel mug first of all it's
ludicrously expensive considering a
basic thermos mug costs as little as
twenty dollars the ember also only holds
12 ounces of liquid that's not much at
all the batteries 2 hour runtime feels
much too short when I used it away from
its cradle it seemed like the ember
needed constant recharging worse the mug
relies on a proprietary charging system
it's really too bad you can't charge it
with a simple universal wireless charger
all that makes the Ember travel mug an
interesting tech toy if you have money
to burn otherwise it's just a massive
waste of cash
