Encrypt your smartphone (CNET How To)

2016-04-02
it's always a good idea to keep your personal data safe the easiest way to do this is with encryption and it all starts with your smartphone to encrypt an iPhone or an iPad all you have to do is add a passcode head to settings select touch ID and passcode tap turn passcode on and enter a strong code it's a little more complicated for Android devices Google's Nexus devices and other phones that ship with Android 6.0 marshmallow like the new Galaxy s7 come with encryption enabled by default on stock Android head to settings click security followed by screen lock and create a code but for most older devices you will need to manually encrypt it make sure the phone is plugged in since it could take up to an hour depending on the amount of data on your device now once a passcode has been created head to settings select security click on encrypt phone and follow the steps encrypting your phone may seem like a no-brainer but if you have a low-end device like the moto G or an older phone your device could take a performance hit after you encrypt it and the only way to rollback encryption is to wipe the device completely so I recommend only doing it with recent high-end devices such as the galaxy s6 LG g4 HTC One em 10 and their newer models the method is a little different depending on your device so for more information be sure to check out my full article over at howtosing.com you
