Exclusive: A trip inside NASA's historic Space Launch Complex 36, the new Moon Mountain

the moment that I saw it I said that's
moon mountain because it looks you know
we all love space mountain at disney
world and it's round it's white and
maybe might have a graphic on it one day
but to me it's reminiscent of the
surface of the Moon it's very distinct
because it's a dome and people would say
that's where we're going back to the
moon that's moon Mountain imagine
someone shot that false wall actually
blown out that leads to the lobby area
so there's another entrance so the
stretch we're standing on is is the
bunker that when Mission Operations were
being held at the pads that weren't that
far away with very explosive vehicles
this is where the mission engineers
would be safe they'd go down this is a
concrete structure and below us there
are a couple of levels at the top level
there's the Mission Control and in there
today are still the remnants of those
old machines from the 60s right those
old monitors and those big dials and you
can can almost hear the ghosts of the
engineers back in the 60s there are
periscopes around us that people look
through one of those people Wernher von
Braun himself you know the man who built
the rocket systems it took us to the
moon this was one of those facilities
that he used to build up our space
program in the United States and so it's
just a it's a thrill just to have it for
our uses today as we build our little
spacecraft that would become a very big
thing as we reach out to them
well we could never afford this as a
private company it would be a big reach
to Ford to be able to build
infrastructure here but to be able to
take what's here and renovate it you
know for the you know hundreds of
thousands of dollars it kind of takes to
make it look good again and and livable
and a nice place to work it's it's
absolutely a great deal we would never
be able to find 80 acres of beachfront
property Cape Canaveral it's only
through the great partnerships we have
through space Florida through the state
of Florida the Welcome that we have from
the 45th wing and from Kennedy Space
Center and all the people that want to
help us do this this you know the the
money is relatively small compared to
the enormous amount of value and the
support we have from the people around
us
