over the past 30 years traditional
telephones have been giving way to more
high-tech tools that's been causing
problems at the FBI which as a result
recently formed a new surveillance unit
called the DC AC the domestic
communications assistance centers going
to try to invent ways to eavesdrop on
skype communications and Google Hangouts
and the new wireless technologies to
better monitor communications the FBI is
also seeking cooperation from tech
companies they want a new law and saying
that companies this is Apple and
Microsoft and Google and Facebook and so
on social networking websites voice over
internet phone providers have to build
in back doors for government
surveillance privacy advocates want to
know what tools the DC AC will use and
whether though partner with
telecommunications companies but they
acknowledge that surveillance is
necessary we have bad people in the
world who communicate over the Internet
child pornography is a real problem for
example and if the FBI or law
enforcement has probable cause to to
show that they're entitled to a wiretap
order then by all means they should be
able to do that the Electronic Frontier
Foundation plans to file a Freedom of
Information Act request seeking details
on how the DC AC operates but it will
likely take a few years to learn any
specifics in San Francisco I'm Sumi das
