Facebook's kicking out clickbait
Facebook announced it changed to its
Facebook newsfeed that will reduce the
amount of stories shared with clickbait
headlines if you're unfamiliar with a
term clickbait it usually means a
headline written to get you to click on
it the headline is usually
attention-grabbing and vague enough that
you must click the link to find out what
the story is really about you've
definitely seen the clickbait headline
think could this coffee kill you or this
is the product that will change your
life forever forever ever anyway
Facebook will be determining clickbait
headlines by looking at two key points
the headline withholds information
required to understand what the content
of the article is and two if the
headline exaggerated the article to
create misleading expectations for the
reader based on that criteria facebook
will determine which posts and which
sites feature clickbait headlines sites
that consistently produce those
headlines will appear lower in the news
feed these changes are rolling out the
next few weeks in theory Facebook could
become a place where you get news right
from your feed what's likely to happen
is sites will eventually figure out a
way to game the system because that's
usually how this works but for now let's
just enjoy the idea of a world without
click bait it's nice right that's it for
this tech news update I maya's after you
can stay on top of the biggest stories
