hi this is Brian Bennett for cnet com
and if you're like me and frankly many
Americans you've probably packed on a
few unwanted pounds over the winter just
in time for the beach season if that's
the case don't freak out at least not
for long fitbit's new aria smart scale
is here to help and probably humiliate
you a little bit to the one 2995 aria is
part of a new growing category of Wi-Fi
connected bathroom scale products
designed to do way more than tell you
how much you weigh it sends a mild
electrical impulse through your body to
detect your percentage body fat and also
calculates your BMI the Aria then pushes
that data to Fitbit servers in the cloud
over your home Wi-Fi network best of all
though is how this info is integrated
into fitbit's large selection of online
tools to analyze and plan your personal
fitness status goals and tactics for
example you can track your activity
level measured by the Fitbit ultra
device against calorie intake and
real-life weight numbers android and iOS
apps also let you log meals on the go
the fitbit aria itself looks like a very
sophisticated bathroom scale it's flat
has a cool smoky black surface and
circular backlit LCD display on the back
of the 4.3 pound device is an
interesting bubble like pattern made
from ABS plastic that bears weight well
here too is a battery compartment for
four double A batteries setting up the
fitbit aria is easy as well since the
entire process can be done wirelessly
using a Wi-Fi connected pc or mac i'm
brian bennett and this has been a first
look at the fitbit aria be sure to check
