First Look: The waterproof and shockproof Nikon Coolpix S30

hey I'm Josh Goldman senior editor for
CNET and this is a look at the Nikon
Coolpix s 30 now the S 30 is a very
simple and basic point and shoot with a
3x optical zoom 2.7 inch LCD on back and
it's waterproof and shockproof it's also
pretty inexpensive at about 120 dollars
and since it takes double-a batteries
can be ready to shoot at a moment's
notice
making the S 30 a nice secondary camera
to have around controls are very simple
though they are different than what you
might be used to on top you get these
big buttons for shutter release and
movie recording it can record 720p video
at 30 frames per second and then on back
there's this directional pad that also
controls the zoom and these buttons for
making setting changes again the whole
thing is very simple and there's not a
lot of shooting options so if you want
much more than automatic snapshots
you'll need to spend more money photo
quality and shooting performance is
about what you'd expected it's price
it's good outdoors with a lot of light
but it's pretty slow so basically you'll
need luck and good timing to get action
shots but if you're looking for an
expensive family-friendly camera to keep
around the pool it's a decent choice I'm
Josh Goldman and that's the Nikon
Coolpix S 30
