Google Search Gets a Facebook Face-lift

2017-07-19
Google's hungry to feed you more information found inside the Google mobile app the feed is a personalized stream of cards if you're thinking this sounds just like Google now you're right but it's tailored even more to your interests the feed users browsing and search history from your Google account including YouTube the calendar and even results from Google home and the assistant this history affects what shows up on the feet whether that's cards about pop culture cats bikes or a combination of all three each card has a header you can click on that takes you to a search page for that topic trending uses there too and many search results let you follow a subject to get news articles or videos in your feet you can unfollow topics too okay so the elephant in the room is obviously that other product called the news feed Facebook surfaces all your friends updates but Google's version shows you things that just interest you at the moment you can't interact with the content like giving thumbs up or thumbs down there are no ads and Google wouldn't comment when asked if that might be coming in the future to address concerns about fake news or the filter bubble Google's including fact-checking features when available the feed will also surface older content not just the latest news say for example you're visiting a new destination or have a trip planned cards will appear with articles relating to activities you might like to do while you're on vacation now don't forget like any Google service you can opt out of things like location services and clear your browsing and search history the feed is rolling out now in the US for the Android and iOS Google apps and globally in a few weeks users of Google's own pixel phone can swipe across from the home screen
