Google has made it easy to mute noisy tabs in Chrome just right-click the tab and select mute tab you can also enable the tab audio muting UI control under experimental features which lets you click on the audio indicator to mute a tab but what if there's a website that constantly plays audio when you don't want it to a new feature coming to Chrome will let you put a stop to it once and for all and while it's not officially available in chrome just yet you can still try it out today here's how for starters you will need to install Chrome Canary the oft updated less stable version of Chrome that packs all the newest features open command prompt by pressing the Windows key typing CMD and pressing enter in command prompt change directory to where the Chrome Canary executable file is type CD space followed by the path which should look something like this press ENTER then type Chrome Exe space then type or paste the switch code which is - - enable - features equals sound content setting press ENTER and chrome canary will open alternatively you can create a desktop shortcut for Chrome Canary with the command-line switch bundled in right click on the shortcut and click properties in the target field you'll see the path to Chrome DXE in quotations to the right of this path hit the spacebar and paste or type the switch code click apply and okay now in Chrome Canary you can mute entire websites go to a website and click the information button in the far left of the address bar sometimes it may have here as a padlock icon to mute the entire website besides sound click the drop down menu and select always block on this site now all audio from that entire website will be blocked if you want to re-enable sound go back to this setting and click always allow on this site for more tips and tricks and other how-tos be sure to check out see Netcom forward slash how-to
