LG's OLED HDR: the next generation of the best TV ever
2015-01-07
I'm here at LG displays booth CES 2015
and behind me is the next generation of
OLED TV this is billed as a HDR OLED HDR
stands for high dynamic range the object
here is that this OLED TV can actually
produce brighter highlights than the
current generation of OLED the current
generation is around 550 nits I've been
told this one's around 800 so that's a
pretty significant increase this TV can
get a lot brighter in the highlights and
of course that can increase contrast
make that OLED picture that we like so
much look even better of course it still
maintains that 0% perfect black for OLED
but it's able to get the whites much
brighter so that infinite contrast ratio
I guess it's a lot more infinite one of
the other things about this TV you can
actually toggle the HDR effect on or off
so we've given that demonstration and
it's pretty obvious when you look at the
highlights which one looks brighter and
that's the HDR one this is some specific
HDR content behind me right now this is
a 65 inch model it's actually a
pre-production model LG does not say
whether it's going to go into production
next year or the following year but this
is the direction OLED is going because
there's really only one picture quality
issue that needs to be addressed and
that's light output so this is a quick
look at the concept 65 inch OLED TV with
HDR technology the next generation I'm
