it's Wednesday September 29th 2010 I'm
Jeff Bakalar and it's time to get loaded
if you were planning on picking up a new
Nintendo 3ds in time for the holidays
think again reports are pinning a
februari release in japan and march for
the united states of course the 3ds is
the successor to the incredibly popular
DS portable system and will allow for 3d
games without the need to wear special
glasses now dozens of third-party
software developers have already
committed to the platform and we're
hoping to get some hands-on time soon
with the new device in a somewhat
surprising move AOL has purchased the
blog TechCrunch yesterday for roughly 25
million dollars now AOL already owns
tech blog and gadget but will look to
TechCrunch for coverage of the business
side of the industry also AOL announced
the acquisitions of five-minute media
and thin labs as well Roku has announced
that hulu plus will be coming to the
video streaming box later this fall Roku
streaming boxes start at just 59 99 up
to ninety nine dollars for the XDS model
and offer a number of different
streaming services the new Apple TV on
the other hand only has netflix and the
iTunes Store as an option also TiVo has
announced that hulu plus will be coming
to the premiere box as well you can now
add Star Wars to the growing list of
franchises going 3d the entire saga all
six films will be getting the 3d
conversion treatment beginning with the
Phantom Menace which is scheduled to hit
theaters in 2012 lucasarts Industrial
Light & Magic will oversee the
conversion and promises none of the
original six films content will be
compromised those are your headlines for
today i'm jeff bakalar for cnet.com and
you've just been loaded
