Mac users are being targeted by Eleanor
but it's not a jilted ex lover it's
malware the malware hides in a drag and
drop app called easy doc converter that
makes Microsoft Word documents from
other file types once installed it runs
a malicious script that gives an
attacker anonymous access to the Mac
through a web-based control panel an
attacker can access the file system
execute commands and scripts or capture
images from the webcam those exploits
are just the tip of the iceberg the
program is targeting intel-based Macs
running snow leopard or later so how can
you avoid infection the simplest way is
don't download apps from unidentified
sources or anything called easy doc
converter it was found on third-party
download sites and not on the Mac App
Store by default the gatekeeper in OS 10
and Mac OS won't run unsigned apps so
that's an additional layer of protection
it's also good practice to double check
these permissions which you can find by
going to System Preferences security and
privacy and the general tab under allow
apps downloaded from choose the Mac App
Store or mac app store and identified
developers if you think you may already
be infected or already downloaded easy
converter use anti-malware software like
malwarebytes to remove it
