mozilla kills off its connected devices

putting firefox everywhere but that
isn't exactly panning out mozilla is
eliminating the team in charge of
putting Firefox on connected devices the
layoffs affect around 50 people as of
2016 the company employed approximately
1,000 the senior vice-president of the
connected devices team is leaving and
the director of the group software
announced his departure last week the
connected device team came from the
Firefox OS initiative Firefox OS was
Mozilla's attempt to create an
alternative to Android and iOS
however the Firefox OS project was
shuttered last year connected device
team projects included tracking personal
schedules checking air quality and
monitoring your home the highest-profile
win for the team was bringing Firefox to
a Panasonic 4k television Mozilla says
it shifted its attention to the Internet
of Things it's building a voice
technology similar to Amazon's Alexa
called Project Bonnie as for the 50 or
so affected by the layoffs Mozilla is
hiring some might stay at the company
