virtual reality has arrived and in it you feel like you're somewhere else the headset tricks the eyes and you can turn your head and see everything like your head and your body have entered another world you reach for things but you're not really touching them you feel like you are moving but you're sitting still virtual reality has been a dream but today's VR and make it happen the oculus rift might be the future of how we experience and communicate but it's also an isolation chamber you can't see the rest of the world or hear it yet you can connect to other places you're alone together but you're tethered right now it's wires connected to a PC and you in a room it comes with a single old-fashioned game controller your real body needs to stay in one place the ability to walk and grab things will happen but over time starting with oculus touch later this year and that hardware will become less intrusive and maybe disappear all together then we'll have more freedom of movement the ability to be anywhere that future will arrive virtual reality is an imperfect dream but it's just beginning and it's very very real
