One-minute Molly Rant: Keep talking about women in tech
2012-05-11
hi i'm molly wood from cnet com here
with a Molly rant in a minute now
sometimes I talk to women in tech and
they don't want to talk about being a
woman in tech sometimes I don't want to
either but then I remember that we have
to keep talking about it there aren't
enough women in tech and that's a
problem but an even bigger problem is
the hostile attitudes that keep women
out of tech in the first place now
recently del held a summit in Copenhagen
Denmark Michael Dell was the keynote
speaker Modell's Danish team hired an
emcee who is well known for making
sexist and racist remarks he kept the
street going at this summit he opened
his comments by saying that there were
no women in the crowd of 800 and he was
happy about that he said that men
invented all the good things and women
invented the rolling pin he said I T was
the last bastion where men could keep
women out and that everyone in the
audience should go home and tell their
wife to shut up ya know that really
happened now Dells Danish director did
apologize if the MCS comments had
offended anyone but this is the person
that he hired to follow Michael Dell on
stage and these are the kind of
attitudes that keep women out of the
tech world completely or make them leave
once they get there we did reach out to
del for comment and they hadn't gotten
back to us by press time keep watching
the Molly rants blog for updates and
keep talking about this problem because
it is not solved yet
