Qualcomm beefs up phone security with Smart Protect platform
2015-08-31
how everybody I'm Lynn la for Cena and
right now we're going to take a sneak
peek at a new security feature that will
accompany mobile devices equipped with
the upcoming Snapdragon 820 processor
the service is called smart protect and
it provides another layer of security
for your phone against malware and user
data leaks because its functionality is
based on the hardware level of Qualcomm
processor the platform can detect
abnormal or suspicious app behavior from
a more holistic point of view now what
we see here is just a reference user
interface but it provides an example of
how the service can detect an alert when
an app is accessing parts of your phone
that you didn't grant it permission to
like accessing your microphone your
camera or your calendar information it
also detects when an app that you did
grant certain permissions to is
accessing your phone in an abnormal or
unnecessary way it will also alert you
when your phone is pushing out data or
text without user interaction and when
it's pushing apps from the background to
the foreground now Qualcomm is providing
this platform in an API kit to mobile
manufacturers and apps that it's
partnering with you can see this
featured in devices that are rolling out
in the first quarter of 2016 again I'm
Lynn and you've been checking out the
smart protect platform from Qualcomm
