Ricoh's Theta captures the world around you in one shot
2013-09-05
hey there I'm Josh Goldman we've seen it
and if you're crazy for 360 degree
panorama or cool photography gadgets
meet the Ricoh theta it's an imaging
device with a proprietary twin lens
system that with a single press of the
shutter release captures fully spherical
images since there's no screen in order
to view your shots the theta connects
wirelessly to an iphone 4s or five or a
fourth or fifth gen ipod touch android
support is expected before the year is
out just launched the free app and you
can download shots stored on the Thetas
internal memory or you can use the app
as a shutter release and the images will
automatically download to your mobile
device it can also use your devices GPS
to geotag the images once transferred
you can open the image and pinch swipe
and rotate it you can then upload them
to a dedicated theta site for sharing on
social networks and on Microsoft's
Photosynth and Bing Map sites a desktop
version for mac and Windows allows
high-res images to be saved viewed and
shared from there too it is a lot of fun
to use and a bit addictive since it
requires no effort beyond pressing the
shutter but all of this fun comes at a
cost four hundred dollars that's a lot
for something that does just one thing
but again if you're crazy for panoramas
or unusual cameras this is for you i'm
josh golden and that's the Ricoh theta
