Russian hackers may have made their way into your router that's according to the Department of Homeland Security the FBI and the UK's national cybersecurity Center they issued a joint announcement that Russian spies are targeting millions of routers across the world target's include ISPs government agencies and even home and office routers the director of the national cybersecurity center said that quote the purpose of these attacks could be espionage it could be theft of intellectual property it could be pre positioning for use in times of tension the US and UK previously said that Russia was behind the knot Petya ransomware attack in June 2017 that caused billions of dollars worth of damage as part of the current announcement the US and UK governments are urging you to keep your router and other Internet connected devices updated set a strong password on your router making sure it's not still set to the factory default which is often as basic as admin you can do this through your routers admin panel open a web browser and type in the routers IP address this is usually something like 192.168.1.1 but it can vary by brand and model try looking on the back of your device or on the manufacturers website for the address and the default login details then change the password
