hey I'm right Chris and I'm here with
the Phillips slim style LED this is a
new light coming out from Phillips that
is intended to replace 60-watt
incandescent it uses only 10.5 wats so
it's very efficient still putting out
800 lumens of light the real headline
here though is that this has a radical
new design this isn't a typical light
bulb or even a bulb at all it's actually
a line of LEDs that are strung out in a
horseshoe shape around the edge of this
plastic shell and what that does is it
dissipates heat much more effectively
than a traditional bulb shaped LED and
that means you don't need to have those
bulky heavy aluminum heat sinks at the
base the slim style LED puts out a good
amount of light 800 lumens that's the
same as the Cree 60 watt replacement
that we like very much if you look at
those two bulbs side by side you'll see
that it's got a less yellowy tone more
of a soft white natural light tone if
you take a look though my one real
criticism about the quality of the light
here is that you've got these shadowy
areas off to the sides and that kind of
flies against the idea of omni
directional light this bulb says it's on
the directional and for all intents and
purposes it is but if you use this led
under the lamp shade for instance you're
going to notice it and it might be a
little bit annoying of course the real
question with the slim style LED is how
much is it going to cost ideally the
lack of the heatsinks means if Phillips
is gonna have to spend as much
manufacturing it and then be able to
pass those savings on to you we don't
know yet though Phillips isn't telling
us the price we're going to stay tuned
and let you know when we find out for
seeing that I'm red crest
