Sony XBR-X850A series: 4K TV gets (slightly) cheaper
2013-09-04
hi I'm David Katz meijer with cnet i'm
here at sony's event in new york
standing next to a 55 inch version of
their latest 4k TV this is the xbr 850 a
series it's Sony's least expensive 4k TV
to date this 55 inches 3,500 is also a
65 inch or in the series for about 5
grand now this TV is extremely similar
to the 4k TV that Sony has already been
selling in the US market it's actually a
little bit cheaper than that model the
main difference between the two is that
this one doesn't have these big bulky
side speakers so this looks like more
like a traditional standard led-based
LCD TV and a lot of ways except for that
4k resolution it is it's got Sony's
triluminos display technology which
really improves the colors based on our
w900 a review it also has Sony's dynamic
edge backlighting which provides pretty
good black levels for an led-based LCD
TV so in all we expect this to be a
really good performer of course the real
headline is the 4k resolution that
enables it to display brand new 4k
content of course Sony is one of the
actually the only maker of a 4k video
distribution system that you can also
buy to go along with this TV if you
really want to download the latest 4k
movies and a few 4k TV shows not much
other 4k content available right now of
course this TV does upscale standard
high-def content to fit the native
resolution of 4k all told this TV is a
pretty watershed moment for Sony because
again it drives the pricing down for a
mainstream brand 4k TV that's a quick
look at sony's 35 hundred dollar 55 inch
