Sony's Action Cam Mini has big features and performance
2014-11-03
Sonne got off to a bit of a slow start
with its actioncam line of POV cameras
but now two years in it seems to have
hit its stride with the a s 100 V and
now the AZ one aka the action cam mini
I'm Josh Goldman with CNET and like
gopro hero4 silver the action cam mini
is a step down from sony's top camera
the a s 100 V but has nearly the same
performance and capabilities it can
capture 1080p at 60 frames per second or
720p at 120 frames per second and using
Sony's X ABC s format it can record at
50 megabits per second giving you great
detail and fewer compression artifacts
it's about two-thirds the size of its
line mate and the body is splash proof
though it comes with a waterproof
housing good down to 16 feet or 5 meters
the battery life feels a bit short
depending on what you're recording at
but you can easily swap out for a new
one it charges via micro USB and records
to micro SD cards but you'll need to get
an SDXC card to record in xav CS the
tiny screen on the side is just for
saying battery Wi-Fi and card status so
you'll need to use its Wi-Fi to connect
to your smart phone or to Sony's Live
View remote to preview and review your
shots or change settings the remote also
has GPS for grabbing location info for
your recordings the Wi-Fi can also be
used for live streaming to Ustream you
can read the full review on cnet.com but
it's definitely one of the best options
for recording your thrills and spills
I'm Josh Goldman and that's a look at
the Sony action cam mini a z1
