amazon has a new magic wand that uses
alexa to help you buy more stuff and
it's basically kind of sort of free for
Prime members the Amazon - wand is a
barcode scanning Wi-Fi stick Amazon
first began testing it out in 2014 for
the grocery service Amazon fresh you
scan a barcode when you're running low
amazon puts it in your shopping cart to
be delivered in your next order now the
new Amazon - wand has Alexa 4 voice
commands use it to help you find recipes
before you order or just verbally make
an order for your favorite item even get
it on the same day if you use Prime now
so about that basically sort of free
part well you need to be a prime
subscriber to even buy the wand and
Prime cost roughly a hundred dollars a
year the wand itself is twenty dollars
but once you register the device
Amazon's gonna credit your account back
that twenty dollars you see this is all
a way to hook you in to Amazon fresh
you'll get to try Amazon fresh at no
charge for three months but afterward
it's another fifteen dollars a month for
the grocery delivery service the wand
may have Alexa but it doesn't have all
the skills of an eco smart speaker for
example it will not play music but it
can answer some questions like
converting kitchen measurements or you
can ask what the weather is going to be
or if you have nothing in your fridge at
all you could just ask to find a nearby
restaurant I am Bridget Carey and if you
want to learn more about all the things
Alexa can do head to cnet.com
