space ax hit a new milestone for the
private space industry the company's
successfully launched a communication
satellite using its Falcon 9 rocket a
rocket we've seen launch and land before
the end goal for SpaceX and other
private space companies is to create
reusable rockets that have turnaround
time similar to airplanes if they can
figure out how to do that the cost of
getting to space would be much cheaper
than it is currently
SpaceX's website currently lists its
launch cost at about 62 million dollars
but the company says that cost could be
cut considerably if it can master
reusable rockets not only is the
successful launch a milestone SpaceX
also celebrated re landing the stage 1
boosters onto a drone ship in the
Atlantic Ocean for a second time that
means they'll hopefully be able to
launch Falcon 9 a third time as long as
it clears all necessary safety checks
and inspections reusable rockets are an
important component in the private space
industry taking off pun intended but
it's also key to SpaceX CEO Elon Musk's
plan to colonize Mars he's mentioned his
plan might require a rocket that can
withstand about 12 to 15 uses before
being retired so we're still a long ways
off from packing our bags for the Red
Planet regardless this launch and
landing is a big win for SpaceX and the
rest of the private space industry we'll
be keeping an eye on what's next for
Falcon 9 and for more space news check
