Stymied by slow print speeds, this Brother printer can't keep up with the competition
2016-04-05
we really wanted to like this all-in-one
printer by brother it's cheap and it
doesn't take up too much space but
ultimately it has more flaws in its
worth this is Justin from CNET and today
we're checking out the brother NFC J 8 8
v DW printer judging by the spread of
available models 150 bucks seems to be
the sweet spot that small businesses and
home offices want to pay for an
all-in-one printer and on paper the J
885 DW seems to include all the right
features that you'd want to increase
your productivity it can obviously print
out documents and photos but it also has
a built-in flatbed scanner a copy
machine with a stack feeder on top and a
paper tray that can fit both standard
sized sheets of paper and 4x6 snapshot
photo paper
there's also Wi-Fi built in for a
wireless connection that lets you take
advantage of printing from various
cloud-based services and you can even
pair your NFC compatible phone to it
using brothers own eye print and scan
app so all that sounds great but the
catch here is that the printer is really
slow on the output it lagged behind the
competition in nearly all of our tests
and enough to where you'll definitely
notice longer wait times especially for
longer documents and full-color photos
the machine also has its share of design
flaws too the flimsy plastic trays feel
like they're about to break at any
second and it really doesn't feel like a
hundred and fifty dollar investment you
can read more details in my full review
on CNET that also includes a list of
shopping alternatives so be sure to
check that out but that's gonna do it
for this video thanks for watching
