this is the 50th year for CES also known as the Consumer Electronics Show and the gadgets and services on display today would seem like science fiction back in 1967 self-driving cars voice controlled personal assistants robots and drones galore here's a quick rundown of the hot trends everyone is expecting for 2017 biggest technology show the big buzz is going to be about Alexa and smart home assistants more gadgets are getting a smart home upgrade we're talking refrigerators washers and dryers lightbulbs smoke alarms toasters even all sorts of home products are getting the power to connect online and the power to be controlled through smart home hubs with voice commands like the Amazon echo and its Alexa voice assistant in fact the new format war is going to be between these smart assistants Amazon has Alexa Google has Google home there's Apple Siri and Microsoft's Cortana and oddly enough none of those companies officially exhibit at this show the battle is over which smart home assistant will play nicely with the most gadgets expect Samsung which is at the show to also promote its own smart voice assistant as for televisions the big talk is going to be around a new term quantum dot it's supposed to outshine OLED in terms of picture quality and we're hearing from more up-and-coming Chinese brands like TCL and Hisense that goes beyond televisions we're seeing a rise of China based companies on the show floor including Xiaomei lay echo and Huawei all who are using CES to shine a spotlight on their products the show is also where you can see creative concepts for laptops and we're also expecting more types of tablet and laptop hybrids but the more exciting tech will center around using artificial intelligence machine learning robots virtual reality and augmented reality CES is where we really get to see the evolutionary process of these high-tech trends from the Las Vegas Convention Center I'm Bridget Carey Christina
