Trying out Google's heavy Street View Trekker backpack
2017-04-27
ever wondered how Google gets street
view images inside hard-to-reach places
well it's not a robot or really small
car it's actually human power and in
this case by a sink ball-based running
group call just run lah who will be
putting on the Google tracker to get
pictures inside Singapore's parks and
running trails now volunteers from the
group such as ultra marathoner avatar
Singh will be donning the 20 kg or 40
pounds tracker to walk
yes walk their way through Singapore's
tourist attractions as well as nature
spaces that's because Google doesn't
want them running as you'll be too fast
for photo taking each striker comes with
15 cameras a computer located at the
bottom and takes a picture every 2.5
seconds so it doesn't matter if you're
mid stepped as the algorithms will
adjust and fix the image accordingly I
put on the tracker myself to try it out
and it turns out it's not as easy as
help Aventura made it look the trigger
wobbles as you walk and going up and
down stairs means you have to be mindful
of the balance of the rig be too far
forward or backwards and you may find
myself falling down now it's heavy but
with a bit of care anyone can use it
even my friend here the rig weighs half
as much as her and with that I'm off to
get some more exercise I'm aloysius low
