Twitter is testing a much bigger limit
for some time now Twitter's 140
character limit has grown by ignoring
things like photos polls quoted retweets
and user names twitter is now testing a
280 character limit with a small group
of its user base twitter has declined to
say how many people are involved in this
test but did say the tests are being
done in multiple languages in a blog
post Twitter said that only 0.4% of all
tweets and Japanese hit the 140
character limit meanwhile 9% of all
tweets in English reached the limit the
post mentions how in languages like
Japanese Korean and Chinese the user can
express themselves more clearly using
one character when compared to a user
writing in language like English or
Spanish Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey posted
one of these longer tweets saying this
is a small change but a big move for us
140 was an arbitrary choice and the
tweak goes on and on like that one
Twitter user edited dorsey's tweet to
show it was possible to convey the same
message but within the old limit if
you're not a part of the small group of
testers there is a way to get longer
tweets right now
twitter user prof 9 created a
tampermonkey script for it tampermonkey
is a browser extension that lets you run
code on websites you visit you download
tampermonkey then create a new script
copy and paste prop 9 script and then
hit save when you go to Twitter comm you
should have the ability to write longer
tweets prof 9 mentions that the script
stops working when you switch pages but
a refresh will fix it for more coverage
