Uber's done a u-turn on tips the
ride-sharing company now lets passengers
tip their drivers starting in Seattle
Minneapolis and Houston and rolling out
to all us drivers at the end of July
riders will see the option in the IVA
app and that's just the tip of the
iceberg because ubers also adding more
for drivers including driver injury
protection insurance a cancellation fee
if your rider cuts and runs after more
than two minutes and a $2.00 teen fare
uber has resisted tipping for a long
time and only let drivers accept them
informally in the past its main US
competitor lyft offers tips
so why rollout tips now ubers had a
bumpy ride this year with scandals
including a blog post in February from
former employee Susan Fowler detailing
sexual harassment allegations CEO Travis
kalanick was caught on camera arguing
with the driver and the New York Times
uncovered a secretive tool called gray
ball that uber used to evade law
enforcement last week Cal Anik took a
leave of absence from his role as CEO
this came after an independent
investigation that recommended changes
to senior leadership
it was obviously hoping that by rolling
out changes for drivers it will shift
gears for the brand image
