2016-08-18
uber to use self-driving cars this month
first reported by Bloomberg ride-hailing
service uber will offer self-driving
cars to customers in downtown Pittsburgh
Pennsylvania within the month of August
so if you're in downtown Pittsburgh home
of an Olympic champion Kurt Angle what
can you expect out of a self-driving
uber ride you'll be picked up by a
modified volvo xc90 SUV if the car looks
anything like the prototype outside of
the vehicle you'll see sensors on the
roof that help the card navigate inside
there will be an uber engineer in the
driver's seat that person is also
equipped with sensors but the biological
kind like eyes and ears when conditions
dictate the engineer will take control
of the vehicle additionally there will
be another person in the passenger seat
taking notes so how does a person get
the privilege of being driven around by
one of these fancy Volvo's riders will
be provided a self-driving car at random
let's see if that causes any backlash oh
by the way those self-driving overrides
they will be free for the time being
that's it for this tech news update I'm
Maya's akhtar and you can stay on top of
the biggest stories at cnet com / update
