cuantas skype might not sound like a compelling premise for a horror movie but the attention to detail in unfriended means it's a cut above standard thriller fair in unfriended a group of powell's find their skype conversation hijacked by the vengeful ghost of laura barnes their peer who committed suicide having been a victim of cyberbullying the movie is notable for taking place entirely inside protagonist Blair Lilly's laptop with the action unfolding using chat windows software and sound effects that are recognizable enough to make the escalating terror feel vaguely rooted in real life she's probably a glitch indeed while unfriended plot is predictable and some of the scares feel cheap this isn't a horror movie that patronizes its audience and the realistic way bleh uses her laptop to try and talk Google and virus scan her way out of trouble makes for oddly compelling viewing everyone hands up right now is doing this it's a shame that unfriended is a bit too absurd to probably deal with the important themes of cyberbullying and online privacy that it raises but nevertheless this is an entertaining effort that proves it's possible to spin a creepy yarn within the confines of a computer screen
