Use a Bluetooth device to unlock your Android phone or tablet

2014-11-17
while it's always a good idea to use a security pin or pattern on your mobile device it can be annoying to constantly have to enter a code to unlock it a new feature in Android 5.0 lollipop looks to change this now when you connect a bluetooth device or use an NFC tag it will disable the security lock when the device is in range to set this up first sync your phone with the Bluetooth device this can be a SmartWatch a speaker or even a car for this example I've got my trusty Moto 360 smartwatch and my Nexus 5 smartphone once the two devices have been paired a smart lock notification will appear on the device tap where it says add as a trusted device you can also access the smart lock feature by going to settings selecting security followed by smart lock and trusted devices next click on the plus icon and select whether it is a Bluetooth or NFC device in this case it's Bluetooth then all you have to do is select the device you would like to use and the next time you turn off the display your passcode won't be required as long as the trusted device is connected to your phone for more tips and tricks like this one be sure to check out how to Tina calm you can also reach out to me on Twitter with any questions or comments I'm dan Graziano CNET thanks for watching
