if your TV is mounted above your fireplace you're doing it all wrong mounting a TV above a fireplace seems logical and it just looks good but it does come with a few issues first the heat from the fireplace can actually increase your TV's operating temperature and shorten its life then there's the issue of soot actually getting into your TV but if you never actually use your fireplace then there is one more thing to consider have you ever sat in the front row of a movie theater while placing a TV above a fireplace almost always leaves you straining your neck ideally your TV should be placed at eye level when you're sitting down or you can even look slightly down at it those are much more comfortable viewing positions so save the fireplace for some family photos or a nice piece of art and keep your TV somewhere where it's heat free and at eye level and now you're doing it right
