Windows 10 automatic updates are a nightmare - but this may help

it's a nightmare all too familiar for
Windows users you're in the middle of a
project and without warning it strikes
the dreaded automatic updates windows
suddenly restart your computer and you
can't stop it if you didn't save your
work it's toast
the unstoppable update is one of the
biggest complaints about Windows and you
can always find people griping about it
on Twitter but Microsoft hails the
forceful restart as a good feature that
keeps your computer secure there are
some things you can do to prevent the
unwanted surprise in settings you can
schedule a 12-hour window of time when
the computer will not automatically
restart this off limits time is called
active hours go to settings click update
in security and select change active
hours by default it said to not restart
on you between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. but you
can stretch this out to a 12 hour time
frame you won't be able to avoid a
restart indefinitely and you need to
have your computer on outside of active
hours windows will pop up a notification
that it's going to restart on you later
in the day when active hours is over if
you catch that pop-up you can go into
restart options and push it back by 6
days at a certain time the only
guaranteed way of not being surprised is
to just check for updates regularly and
restart it yourself but if you use
active hours maybe you can prevent a
restart during your typical busy time
for CNN I'm Bridget Carey wishing all
Windows users the best of luck and
remember save your work
