Wink smart home hub's second round isn't a knockout
2016-10-19
so the Smart Home Hub promised to
consolidate all different connected home
gadgets to make one universal place
where you can access all of your devices
that's what the original wink hub did
and that's what the wink hub 2.0 right
in front of me is also supposed to do
available now for 99 bucks the wink hub
is supposed to be an improvement over
the original model it has a few
different things that added Bluetooth
it's supposed to be more reliable it's
supposed to be safer it's supposed to
make all your connected devices connect
more easily but my experience testing it
is that it's roughly the same as the
original and that's really frustrating
because I was hoping to find that
smart-home ideal where I could control
everything altogether now the one major
bonus is that you don't have to commit
to a specific protocol so you can have a
ZigBee you can have z-wave you can have
a Wi-Fi you can have Bluetooth you can
have clear connect from Lutron and you
don't have to commit to alexa or apple
homekit you can have it all that's great
but in terms of usability it was still a
little glitchy I still had some issues
creating robot switches winx version of
rules was still kind of difficult and i
got a user error it's that internal
error 500 every time i tried to create
one and it didn't actually work for me
so there definitely still some kinks
that whink needs to work out so I didn't
get into everything here I tested out a
lot more stuff for that check out my
full review at Cena comm but overall I
think this is a reasonable option but it
still needs a little more work to be the
smart home ideal consolidation device
that we've been waiting for
